Autoimmune Disease
The list of autoimmune disease conditions is huge, and continues to grow. Celiac disease, endometriosis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Lupus, Lyme disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes and Vitiligo are among the most common.
These autoimmune diseases happen when your immune system attacks healthy tissue in your body, leading to chronic inflammation, digestive pain and dysfunction. Conventional medications can suppress the symptoms of autoimmune conditions but they don’t address the underlying root causes. Did you know that your genes account for only one third of your risk of developing an autoimmune disorder? The other two thirds come from diet and lifestyle factors. In a recent gut health study, 15 patients with an autoimmune bowel condition followed a targeted nutrition plan for eleven weeks. By week six, 73% were in remission and their autoimmune symptoms improved significantly!
There is no quick fix, but by finding and addressing the underlying problems in your immune system, you can gain some control. Supporting the gut to do its job in digesting your food and so allowing your body to put the nutrients where it needs to is vital.
